The Academician of Art Ernst Mether-Borgström (1917–1996) was one of the pioneers of abstract art in 1940s Finland. He was exceptionally versatile artist whose work encompasses oil paintings, sculptures, drawings as well as fine prints using various techniques. Mether-Borgström’s art could be described as inventive, joyous and playful. His works can be found in many salient collections around the country and abroad such as, for example, the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. During his long career Mether-Borgström received also many rewards and recognitions, i.a. the Finnish State Art Award as well as the Pro Finlandia medal.
